Blueberry Banana Smoothie Bowl

A new year calls for new recipes to try. Whether you're looking for healthier alternatives to add to your routine or looking to take a break from the typical cereal and milk regime, I have a feeling you might be down to give this super easy smoothie bowl recipe with goodnessknows snack bars a go. I gave it a try after goodnessknows challenged me to try something new this year. After all, they want to encourage and celebrate every attempt on the path to greatness – no matter how small or imperfect – because every try is a step to being your best.

First off, if you've already jumped on board with the smoothie bowl trend you might have noticed the super steep price tag when you're ordering out. I personally love the flavor, texture and idea but not so much the $12 price tag that usually goes along with it. So, I took a stab at making it at home for the first time. Sure, it's not as gorgeous as those beautifully crafted acai bowls with all the bells and whistles but I think it comes pretty darn close even without the extravagant flower and coconut toppers.

Pro Tip: the key to keeping the consistency thick enough to hold the toppings perfectly in place on the top of the smoothie is blending banana into the yogurt. I figured that one out by trial and error- the first time around wasn't pretty, but nobody is perfect, right?

Anyhow, I decided to embrace the new blueberry, almond, dark chocolate snack squares  from  goodnessknows and create a Blueberry, Banana and Chia bowl. It's way more delicious than it looks and with the additional crunch from the squares it makes it feel like more of an indulgence than a healthy alternative. Plus it's gluten, artificial color, flavor and sweetener free. For the bowl, all you need is a blender, some yogurt and fresh fruit and voila! A smoothie bowl in the comfort of your home.

Blueberry, Banana and Chia Smoothie Bowl (Serves 2)
2 Bananas, peeled and sliced
1 cup fresh blueberries
1 Cup Plain or Vanilla Yogurt
1 Tsp. Chia Seeds
1 package goodnessknows blueberry, almond, dark chocolate (150 Calories per package)

In the blender combine 1 banana, 3/4 cup blueberries and yogurt until smooth.

Pour into bowl (or two if you're sharing) and top with chia seeds, the remaining blueberries, sliced bananas, and goodnessknows  snack squares. I chose to chop my squares into smaller pieces but you can leave them whole if you please.
