Tis the season for festive cocktails! Am I right? This year I'm teaming up with the award-winning, Don Q rum to create something special for you to add to your holiday party lineup. Now, for me I'm definitely a rum girl. I don't know if it's my salt-water upbringing but it's an essential in our bar cart. While I mostly favor the coconut variety, I love the warm, rich flavor of spiced rum, particularly Don Q's Oak Barrel Aged Spiced Puerto Rican Rum from the Destilería Serrallés. It's one of America’s oldest family-owned businesses with a rum making tradition that started in 1865. Destilería Serrallés is based in Ponce, Puerto Rico where it produces the #1 selling rum on the island, Don Q rum.
Because the holiday season is all about getting cozied up with the ones you love I knew that I had to create a spin on a classic favorite, Eggnog. While a lot of people use bourbon to spike their nog I like to think that spiced rum does a better job. Trust me on this one guys, it does, especially in terms of using Don Q's Oak Barrel Aged Spiced Puerto Rican Rum. The rum is a perfect blend of rums aged at least 3 years in American white oak barrels creating a warm, rich and smooth texture. The flavor profile alone makes it the perfect pairing for holiday cocktails. Hello, vanilla, cinnamon and caramel with oaky notes. Swoon and more swoon.
So, let's get to it and mix up some drinks to sip in front of the fire all nestled up. It probably wouldn't hurt your place on Santa's list if you leave this out for him instead of milk. Just saying...
Spiced Rum Eggnog With Don Q Oak Barrel Aged Spiced Puerto Rican Rum
(Serves 2)
Ingredients:
16 Oz. Eggnog or Eggnog substitute of your choice
(I personally love Trader Joe's Eggnog.)
2 Oz. Don Q's Oak Barrel Aged Spiced Puerto Rican Rum
1/2 Tsp. Allspice
1/4 Tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
Optional Garnish:
1 Tsp. Maple Syrup
2 Tbsp. Sugar
Cinnamon Sticks
1. In a shaker or blender combine eggnog, rum, allspice, cinnamon and vanilla.
2. Shake or blend until smooth.
3. In a small bowl add the maple syrup and dip glass rim.
4. Dip syrup coated rim in sugar and coat until desired.
5. Pour Spiced Rum Eggnog into glasses and enjoy with a few of Santa's cookies.
Want to make this for your upcoming holiday party? A good rule of thumb is adding 1oz. of rum to each 8oz. of nog. Pour in punch bowl and stir to mix.
As always, drink responsibly and never drink and drive.
