Facemaking for Fashion Week

During a quick call last week with some of the modeltestants from Oxygen’s The Face, the direction went appropriately from executive producer and supermodel talent coach Naomi Campbell to talk of Fashion Week. My question? How the girls each prep for the runways. From their casting attire: basic blacks, to their footwear of choice, heels, naturally. Though sneakers were mentioned in which, I pictured sporty yet chic model off duty style. They chatted about keeping the stresses of fashion week like the weather (Afiya reminded us that even "when it's 5 degrees outside and you're still expected to be there" - eep!) to keeping things simple, which ironically is the opposite of the attendees of NYFW.

I’m sure you all know what I’m talking about, Fashion Week after all is about unleashing your inner creative (and eccentric). I’ve always been drawn to and inspired by the masterpieces straight from the runways but also by the girl sitting next to me in the show. The amount of work that goes into putting on those 15 minutes down the runway is unreal. The exquisite hair, makeup and of course, the designs, that will likely become next season’s trend.
What you find off the runways is likely just as creative. I find myself stepping outside of my already eccentric box and playing with new silhouettes, colors and prints when it comes to prepping my NYFW style. Mixing casual with structure and bold prints or going glam with textures. Grabbing fun accessories, like ikat platforms or a uniquely shaped bag to make things really pop. Even my beauty routine gets a little more playful. We’re talking bigger hair, fearless nail art, and bold lips. It is Fashion Week, after all.

Most importantly, don’t forget to wear it with confidence, because isn’t that really what makes a Facemaker? A Facemaker is anyone who helps transform a person into a supermodel.
Don’t forget to watch Season 2 of Oxygen’s The Face to see what Naomi, Anne Lydia, and Nigel have in store for the modeltestants. Tune in March 5th at 10/9c and see what really makes a “Facemaker”.
