You might remember me blowing up your Instagram and Twitter feed last week while I was briefly whisked away to Italy (well, Alphabet City) for the S. Pellegrino "Off The Menu" event with Chef Michael Voltaggio. After making somewhat of an entrance I was immediately introduced to the "Italian Market" where I filled my bag with fresh baguettes, fruit and flowers while watching an artist sketch a couple on the bench nearby. It felt like I was in a dream, or at the very least, Italy.
Next stop a festive drink, something fruity was obviously a necessity so I opted for the white peach infused cocktail, it was heavenly. Things got infinitely better when I bumped into Alyssa at Runway Chef and found out we were actually sitting at the same table for dinner, which felt like a major win. We sipped our perfectly crafted drinks while we listened to the band's jam session in the next room over until it was time for dinner. Which we then made our way to a romantically lit rooftop where old movies played on the wall, calling it beautiful is clear an understatement.
Once we were seated I gave the menu a once over while I sipped on S. Pellegrino (fun fact: S. Pellegrino is naturally filtered for 30 years by the Italian Alps) and watched the lights sparkle. I was immediately intrigued by the unique pairings chef Michael Voltaggio came up with, and even more enthusiastic after each course made it's way out, almost as if each plate one upped the previous. My personal favorite was Mushroom-Epresso Shortrib, that was so tender from cooking for a several days that it was flawlessly sliced with just a simple butter knife. Obviously the hazelnut (naturally) dessert was nothing so scoff at, especially when topped with strawberry frozen yogurt beads. As the evening rounded out and I headed home I felt I had truly lived like an Italian, even if it was for just one night.
