Meet Me In New Orleans

After filling your Instagram feed with snaps from all over New Orleans last week I couldn't wait to get home and share my trip with you guys. (A big thank you to my awesome readers who told me where to go!) First off, you need to add New Orleans to your bucket list immediately, no questions asked. The Crescent City is one destination that you have to see to understand, it's a whole other world down there. It's unlike any city in the States and in the best possible way. They pride themselves for being so behind the times that they're ahead. Which couldn't be more true.

The food, the music, the culture, it's all so incredible. Sure, I have a love story with NYC but there's something about New Orleans that has peaked such a massive interest in just a few days of walking along the cobblestoned streets. It was authentic, rich in culture and filled with so much hospitality. The Colonial architecture withstood the test of time (and Katrina), the seemingly endless music options from every which way and the indulgent cuisines from all over the world.
Walking through Jackson Square in the French Quarter you could fall in love with street artists, hear the high school brass band play all while eating cayenne infused chocolate gelato on any given morning. The city stayed alive both day and night, and offered something new at every corner. It was exciting, each day was a new adventure. We hopped on a street car, toured the city on bikes, and even found ourselves wandering through the famous cemetries. I learned about the history and tried foods that I'd never in million years think to taste. {I'm almost positive I gained 5lbs.} With the amount of food put in front of you while you're in NOLA you're going to want to make sure you have a little stretch in your clothes, trust me on this one.
As far as dressing for the occasion goes, I kept things pretty simple as far as getting dressed goes, I stuck to my trusty skater skirts and favorite Levi's to keep me comfortable while I trucked around the city all day. I will say it's a walking town so keep your footwear practical. The weather was crisp, and perfect as one might expect from the south this time of year.
I enjoyed my time in New Orleans (although it feels as if it were too short) and only hope that you feel just the slightest inclination to explore city for yourself.
Stay tuned because I'll be sharing my favorite hotspots in the coming weeks on where to go, what to do and what you have to eat.  Until then head on over to the New Orleans CVB and see what NOLA has to offer you...
A big thank you to the New Orleans CVB for having me and to Richard Melick for taking these awesome shots during our trip.
