I haven't shown a lot of my kitchen since we moved. I'll be frank, the oddly shaped green tile almost made me pass on the space. If it weren't for the big bay windows, exposed brick and backyard I never would have given this apartment a second thought. I remember seeing the listing and immediately said: no thanks as I clicked past. But after giving it some additional thought I knew that I could easily cover up that dark cave-like vibe in favor of something brighter and more my style with REMOVABLE WALLPAPER.
I'm no stranger to ugly backsplashes and removable wallpaper (remember our old kitchen?) so I knew I was up to the task. Disclaimer: Tile is not the ideal candidate for removable wallpaper so it's not going to work for everyone. I've had some good luck with installation and it lasting for years but it is recommended on a smooth surface.
After finally deciding a style (yeah, that took forever - Libra struggles), I got to work getting our kitchen ready for a quick and easy Glow Up - the after pictures may or may not blow your mind. They definitely stopped me in my tracks.
I went with a white and beige geometric style and want to say a huge thank you to WALLPOPS for sending over their NuWallpaper in Centricity for the job! It took about two hours from start to finish, but I will say we were interrupted several times during the process by the kids so it's possible it should have only taken 30-45 minutes.
End result? It only took one roll of $38 wallpaper - which is probably the most affordable 'Kitchen (non) Reno" ever...
- Tips For Removable Wallpaper Backsplash Application -
+ Clean the surface with warm water (skip cleansers, chemicals and soap).
+ Remove wall plates (I like to cover mine!)
+ Lay out wallpaper. If you're using more than one roll make sure the batch numbers are the same.
+ Don't Stretch The Paper - it will rip!
+ Gently smooth the bubbles out with a smoothing tool, don't do it too hard you can tear it.
+ Always cut a little more - it's easier to trim down than risk having to redo the strip.
