Well, we finally got around to painting and decorating the boy's room. It only took us 8ish months. But it was WELL WORTH THE WAIT. I still can't get over how different it looks from the initial walk through of their room before painting to the after painting. It's crazy that it's even the same room.
It's bright, bold and makes a statement the second you walk through the front door and look down the hallway.
As you might have already noticed, most of my decor inspirations come from my some of favorite destinations. The main inspiration here was to a create a Kauai inspired bungalow. Lots of color, texture, plants, and filled with Good Vibes Only. It's not completely done - we're adding more storage, some art and a wallpaper accent wall- but for now, this is the magic that happened with a couple of coats of paint and some rearranging.
Let's talk about these navy walls first. Of course we had to partner with Clare again because we're obsessed with their paint - it's VOC-free, dries super fast and goes on smooth. So our only real big decision was which blue do we use? It was a tough one because I love ALL of Clare's blue hues. I wanted something deep, a little moody, but also calming like the Pacific Ocean- so we landed on Goodnight Moon from Clare. It's even more beautiful in person and coordinates so perfectly with the white dresser, striped curtains and crib.
Next, the bunk bed (easily my favorite makeover of the room). The boys were desperately in need of a new bed because this $700 purchase just didn't hold up to their wear and tear over the last couple of years. Because they're so rough on furniture I was not ready to splurge on another bed for awhile, so we decided to paint it! I let the boys choose the color and was pleasantly surprised when they picked Clare's Golden Hour because I secretly wanted to go with a bold yellow! After a smidge of sanding, a coat of primer and two coats of paint, it looked like a brand new bed. The perfect pop of sunshine and reminds me of NoKa Fair, a small stretch of boardwalk chock-full of small businesses in North Kapaa in Kauai. If you're ever in Kauai, stop by!
After the paint dried we hung a few of the boy's favorite art pieces, plants and made an 'entryway' nook at their doorway which I have to say is a surprise/love feature of the room. I love the chair and side table with the basket hanging on the bed. It's inviting, and the boys think it makes the room look cool - and I'll take it.
