And just like that we have a new bedroom!
It's incredible what a couple of coats of paint can do for a space. Because, really that's all we did...
My biggest goal for our bedroom was to create an entirely different space without buying a single new piece of furniture for the room. Sure, I rearranged pieces from other rooms and added more plants but the biggest change was THE PAINT! If you've seen any other room in our house you know we had to go with Clare, again. As always, it did not disappoint.
I wanted our room to be deep, moody and warm and inviting at the same time. Deep Dive, a green blue (teal-ish) hue was the perfect color for the job. It stops you in your tracks and is an instant mood lifter. I love how it changes colors throughout the day and looks incredible under both natural and artificial light. We know that NEVER happens. Bonus, it pairs so well so with so many different colors - I love it with the pinks, greens, red and purples accented throughout the room. With the addition of the deep navy headboard and wardrobes.
We've had our Ikea Brimnes bed and wardrobes for years and honestly they needed an upgrade before I finally bid them farewell. I wanted them to be deeper than the walls and basically anything far from the original white color so we landed on Goodnight Moon (the same color as the kid's room). It could not have been a more perfect pick. It adds a certain richness to the space and looks completely different than their original state. I gave the handles another spray down since they've had some wear over the last several year - you can find the original Brimnes Handle Upgrade here.
We primed them up with Clare primer mixed with a bit of Goodnight Moon to give it a darker tint for a smooth cover. We used 2-3 coats of Goodnight Moon on both the headboard and the wardrobes before realizing we were using wall paint so we have to go back and redo it with trim - oops! You definitely need trim because it will chip like crazy very quickly. So if you're painting any furniture - PRIMER AND TRIM PAINT.
After the paint(s) dried we got to work styling things up a bit. I moved the mirror to the headboard and added A LOT of plants. The goal is to fill the top with plants. Next, I brought in my pink dining chair for the nook and added a corner shelf with a eye catching vase to spice things up. I swapped the round basket for an oversized hat and added some plants to the floor - as far as I'm concerned you can never have enough plants. Most of the artwork was moved to the floor to lean and stack - I kind of dig it. I even added some wallpaper to the headboard's shelving for an extra pop. I know eventually I'll have to paint the white bed but that's a whole other ballgame or maybe we'll tackle it when we redo the wardrobes. Who knows...
Overall, what do you think of the makeover?
